.Wolverine 04.
Much to my delight, the topic for a recent Drawing Jam was one of my all-time favorites, Wolverine..

I spent a bit of time trying to think of what I could possibly do with him to break out of my typical Wolverine mindset. So I skipped over my first inclinations to draw him in one of his costumes or in his jeans-and-wifebeater bar-hopping outfit, and decided to go back to his earlier years in Japan.

What I like about putting him into more of a "samurai" setting is that A) It is totally sweet to have him wielding a sword while also having all six of his claws extended, and B) I can show how much of a bad-a he is by sticking a bunch of shuriken in him and showing that he is unfazed. Also, it gave me a chance to work on putting a bit of texture into my backgrounds, which is an area in which I can always use extra practice.

Although the figures on the ground are pretty static, overall I'm very pleased with this picture. I feel like I accomplished my goal of "loosening up" my subject and my "camera" in order to get something a bit more dynamic than my usual straight-on views. I also had quite a bit of fun on the coloring.
