Okay, so a long time ago, somebody on the Drawing Board forums started a Wizard of Oz thread in which everyone was supposed to place his or her own unique vision for the classic Oz characters. This was probably like two years ago. Anyway, I got this sketch done, but then someone else beat me to the punch with glowy eyes that looked really cool. So I just kinda gave up and never finished. Anyway, two years later, I'm flipping through pictures on my harddrive and I realize I still kinda like this one. So I finally colored him.

This picture was kind of a color-picking exercise for me. I wanted to push my colors darker than I would typically choose. So, even though your eye can pick out the different colors when you see them together, almost all of the colors in this image appear to be close to plain black if you just sample them with Photoshop's color picker. So I think this is supposed to teach me to be less afraid about pushing colors darker.
