This was an assignment for my watercolor class. I had spent most of the semester working from reference photos and I needed a break. So I whipped up my own sketch (for the first time in months) and went at it.

I guess the idea was at least partially inspired by the work of Natalie Ascencios, although my skills are so pale in comparison that I risk insulting her by implying any sort of connection. Plus, this picture is really nothing like any of hers, so there's no real point in trying to make a comparison. The inspiration was more on a subconscious level and I've provided the link to her site more for your own enrichment than anything.

I guess my reason for this picture was to take an idea and turn it inside out, although that much should be obvious. Also, oddly enough, three people who I showed this to were asking who the people strapped to the dynamite were. That kinda caught me off guard, since they were never supposed to represent anyone. I guess I just assumed it was obvious that they were intended to be merely "people." Thought I'd lay that out there to avoid any possible confusion.
