Watercolor is a new medium for me this year, and I guess this counts as my first real watercolored picture. I sketched out the pose from a picture of Liz Phair that was just too cool to pass up, then painted it during class today. The original photo was in black and white, so I felt free to go a little crazy with the colors. I really think watercolor is a good stretch for me artistically. See, my habit when I'm drawing in pencil is to be very precise. I like for my finished sketches to be as clean as if they were inked. So of course a medium that is naturally imprecise is good for me. Not only that, but the limits of working within class time forces me to be faster as well. Sometimes I'll work on my other sketches for days, but this picture was done start to finish in an hour and fifteen minutes.
