.Angel 02.
Sadly enough, I did this picture in 2006 and am only just now getting around to posting it two years later. In fact, I've had this page (with the exception of this paragraph) written since then and just never bothered to link to it in the gallery. Well it's going in the 2008 gallery because it's new to you. Also, I just now realized a bald head with an arrow on it totally looks like a ripoff of the "Avatar" cartoon, which I've never actually seen. *sigh* That was not deliberate, but it's likely that I saw a picture somewhere and the influence crept in unintentionally.
This was another picture that seemed to just form out of thin air. I didn't decide to draw it, exactly, it just happened. I believe I started with the overall body shape, with which I'm pretty pleased. I wanted to draw a female figure with a bit more mass than my characters usually have and I think it turned out well. I don't really remember when the cloud and wings came into the picture, but once I realized I was drawing an angel, I decided a harp was a good way to balance things out. Plus, I like the idea of taking common and perhaps overused subject matter, but presenting it in a way that is my own.
Also, I hope nobody finds this image offensive for its nudity. I know that you can't please everybody all the time, but I don't feel like this picture is really pushing the boundaries of taste or anything. It certainly doesn't seem any less appropriate than the nose-art on old World War II planes.
Oh, and I'm often asked whether I use references for my artwork. Occasionally I do use a photograph or live subject matter for reference for a pose, but this was not one of those times. This one was all just imagination coming out onto the paper, so if there are anatomical inaccuracies... meh.
